:( Patrick Swayze

by: Conny Liegl from Saarbrücken, Germany

Knowing that Patrick Swayze was brave til the end of his life, he was a good example of life that is worth a while living even though he was sick.  He continue to do his TV show, The Beast.  He continue to have a life with his family.  We hope that we remember what he done during his life.  He was actor, dancer and singer-songwriter. He was best-known for his roles as romantic leading men in the films Dirty Dancing and Ghost and as Orry Main in the North and South television miniseries. He was named by People magazine as its "Sexiest Man Alive" in 1991.

MidSummer

As the summer strolled by, laziness would come upon on us, even on me too.  I am not going to say I am exactly too lazy doing nothing.  I have been doing a lot of work work!  I did some socializing, ate some good food, rediscover some of my favorite chore, cooking and strolling along the farmer's market when I have some time to spare.  I did not like too much of the oddity of the summer that brought upon our good city (the garbage strike).  Yikes!
Moments of deep reflections weren't not much and between for the past few weeks, though there are enough to reflect upon on its own merit.
I do have to say there are a month to go for summer, therefore enjoy!

Expert of Reflections on MJ

The universe must have some ways to say things to me, my past entry got me into thinking?   Is the state of Q&A really not a good way to ponder upon your life?  That is not my main point of this entry.  I was wanting to reflect upon how Michael Jackson is such a big phemonon on our culture and that it really makes our corner of our lives so small.

Farwell King of Pop

Michael Jackson(Aug 29, 1958) passed away suddenly on June 25, 2009 due to cardiac arrest.
Known as King of Pop, he was a singer since he was 11 years old. He was the first singer that I known on the MTV days, that was when I was a toddler. It was the time he released his record, Thriller. His later known records, HIStory and Dangerous were also hits. One of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, his other achievements include multiple Guinness World Records—including one for "Most Successful Entertainer of All Time"—13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one singles in his solo career—more than any other male artist in the Hot 100 era—and the sales of over 750 million albums worldwide. Cited as one of the world's most famous men, Jackson's highly publicized personal life, coupled with his successful career, made him a part of popular culture for almost four decades.
My personal favorite songs: We are the World and You Are Not Alone.
Note: An autopsy will be done tomorrow.

Lately...

I would or can say not much had happened, but that is not really true.  i have quite a bit on my plate and usually I do try to blog here at least once a week with a picture or a thought.  Instead of those QaR's, I would like to be more random for this week.  This month will be my busiest month, since this is the month of Gay pride celebrations take place in many countries in honour of the Stonewall riots.  Father Day is on the 3rd Sunday of June.  High school graduates will be celebrating their milestone into their next journey.  Its also the beginning of summertime for folks to gather for outdoor sports: golf, swimming, barbecues, camping, traveling, hiking, taking photographs, carnivals and summer storms.  (that's not the good part)
My current project right now is: taking photographs of flowers and plants of garden(s) in near my surroundings.  For me, traveling is not much of a feasible thing to do, oh we know the pandemic(which I will not go into about)

Glass hold tells Personality

clipped from news.bbc.co.uk
Drinking types
The way you hold your glass can reveal much more than you might realise, a psychologist has warned.

Dr Glenn Wilson, a consultant psychologist, observed the body language of 500 drinkers and divided them into eight personality types.

These were the flirt, the gossip, fun lover, wallflower, the ice-queen, the playboy, Jack-the-lad and browbeater.

Healthy Lifestyles and Weight

Before I read this article, I went and listened on an author: Kate Harding on fat acceptance.  (Thats how I would say I conduct my life in someways.)  Her recent book: Lessons from the Fat-o-sphere said that obesity is not the biggest health problem, expect in extreme cases.  (I am not a health expert.)  I haven't been overweight before, but I do witness people with chubby or slim bodies do have a rough time to keep up their lifestyles.  Its work after your workday. Not that we don't enjoy our workouts, but if its work, we need to find a routine or food that we do enjoy, so that healthy lifestyles would not wane after a while.  It would be understandable that somedays you would not have the whole hour to do your workout or eat a complete hearthy meal, but self-esteem has to do a great deal with your weight, would you think?

Pondering: Universal Healthcare

On my daily readings of my blogs, one of my stumble upons:
Are Patients in Universal Healthcare Countries Less Satisfied?
Firstly, one already know that this article is pro-Universal healthcare. Secondly, you got to know me, I am a Canadian, therefore, do receive Universal healthcare. Thirdly, some of the facts are not exactly correct: Canada is single-payer with provinces deciding how health care is spent and strict limits on private care, prescription drugs are heavily subsidized. Single-payer, hmm, not all provinces are prescribed to that and prescription drugs are cheap at all, they are so pricey! arrgh! How we define universal healthcare means ease of access to doctors, which is an universal problem as population grows older. Thats actually a worldwide problem! The schooling for being a doctor or going to the specialties are not cheap in North American colleges/universities. How do we expect, universal access, when doctors are lured away to more profitable jobs? (consulting)
Meanwhile, for the poor folks, access for ID are in a sad state, therefore, there goes universal healthcare. For others, distance could be the barrier, mobility could be an issue, languages or unknown issues to medical staff could be the reasons. In terms of waiting times, it would have to go back to the above issue: training staffs, hiring people and efficiency of the locales.
As a result, money does a lot of talking and bottom line does matter. How sad.
Above blog is the opinion of selected anonymous conversations this blogger had in number of occasions with unnamed medical professionals who used to work in the field. Some were based on Canadian newspaper: GlobeandMail and TheStar.

Who Are We? Reflection!

Who am I? I am such a boring person, just kidding, not really.  I am a female, diverse, multi-colored, multi-talented, cat lady, health conscious, loving, flawed with errors & a whole lot more in luggage human being...I just find a few interesting quotes that I would like to put up: "Who are we really? Combination of common chemicals that perform mechanical actions for a few years before crumbling back into the original components? Fresh new souls, drawn at random for some celestial cupboard where God keeps an unending supply?

or the same soul, immortal and eternal, refurbished and reused through endless lives, by that thrifty Housekeeper? In Her wisdom and benevolence She wipes off the memory slates, as part of the cleaning process, because if we could remember all the things we have experienced in earlier lives, we might object to risking it again. "

I do not know I would really agree with this following quote: We are what we repeatedly do. Aristotle
We do subject to change!

The Recession Is Poof!

Before you take this title too literally, please don't think I am advertising for this particular group.  I am not nor I am endorse the group.  Originally, I read an article from the Globe and Mail about how people cope with the recession.  There are more depressing & sad news that I begin to wonder when the yellow brick road would begin.  When I saw this article: Using optimism to deal with recession.
I see some hope, well not exactly, I am the kind of person who is always cautious optimist.  I went to the group site: This Recession is Over!
A brief description: Too much negative hype about the recession & enough of that, now lets get on with our lives & get some of the good news out there.
The only requirement of this group would be to post good news about the economy.  I do not know it has to be accurate.  I am into accuracy.  Enjoy!

Untitled- you make up after reading NYT article

I just came across this article: The End of Philosophy by David Brooks, a New York Times- op-ed columnist. The article took me a couple of reads before I could figure out, its not about the end of philosophy. Let me quote from what Brooks said: (Scientists/researchers) "They’re good at explaining how people make judgments about harm and fairness, but they still struggle to explain the feelings of awe, transcendence, patriotism, joy and self-sacrifice, which are not ancillary to most people’s moral experiences, but central." Lets define philosophy: study of the ultimate reality, causes, and principles underlying being and thinking. It has many aspects and different manifestations according to the problems involved and the method of approach and emphasis used by the individual philosopher. After I read this article, I feel really uncomfortable about: Darwin is making the way humans are. (Survival to the fittest, men look after oneself etc.) I also understand that science will not be able to explain every single bits of emotions or feelings or logic as to what human does or to justify what we do or does it make sense when the research results comes out. We have to account that moral reasoning can be hard to come by. Morals and emotions are like a mismatched couple. They do not come together unless they do need to. We need both moral reasoning and gut(in the article, "moral emotions"). I am not a philosopher, but I certainly am a human. I believe we have a problem recalling the past tense, the past mistakes, the human morality itself. Its difficult to live the present, how to expect to relive the past again unless it is through movies or entertainment or through some expense of (some resources). Philosophy, I believe, is just getting more complex rather then coming to the end.

Sadness

When children, especially teenage children lost one of their parents due to tragic circumstances such as Michael and Daniel Neeson, Natasha Richardson's sons are now grieving of her passing, we could not imagine how kids can cope with the loss one of their parent.  When Price William said in one interview recently: “Losing a close family member is one of the hardest experiences that anyone can endure,”  “Never being able to say the word ‘mummy’ again in your life sounds like a small thing… However, for many, including me, it’s now really just a word - hollow and evoking memories.”  Somehow these words now can be very difficult for the Richardson, Neeson and Redgrave's families.   I find myself almost daily, even though I find myself my thoughts would be with my parents, not just my mum, with my dad too.  It is important to know how precious mum or dad are.  Life are so fragile, yet moments are tender and at times could be annoying, but finding a place in your heart to unconditionally to love them is all we can do as children no matter what your age is.

175 Years of Toronto, Canada

Update: PBS in New York-- WNED had a premiere on 175 years of Toronto, do hope they have it broadcast or on DVD at some point. --http://www.wned.org/Features/toronto175/default.asp In one local paper, Toronto Star, they have 175 reasons to love Toronto.  I really will not try to list 175 things that I love about Toronto.  Before I go on to the blurb, I shall let you in that it is Toronto's 175 years of being a city.
1. Public transportation access(TTC)
2. CN Tower
3. Various theatre/musical productions from everywhere- US, UK, local
4. Lots of shopping malls(especially Eaton Centre), of course it could be bad too.
5. Hockey (Air Canada Centre) and kids hockey leagues.
6. The rainbow village at Church Street, it is just very colourful & more shopping, could be yikes too at times.
7. St. Lawerence Market.
8. Multiculturism, (I could not think of a better way to say ?)
9. Bookstores from used to new, (some from blogTO, BMV books, Book City)
10. Variety choices of green food, groceries or shopping to choose from(some may say I am living beyond my means, but note, I do find articles on how to live economically- on being green.)

Read TOS Me Before You Take Me Up

As a cellular phone, I would like you to use me and take the uttermost advantage of my vast amount of confusing features without an accompanied manual.  You may need to head to the Internet to find me as a PDF file.  These features aside, before you go and purchase me, did you think about owning me first?  I am an attractive phone with its slick figure, attractive looks, convenient sliding up and down features, shiny screen you can imprint your fingers on and or lightweightness.  You would glance at various styles, looks or variations of me that you would like to have, then there goes an attractive salesperson, hopefully also knowledgeable of us, its features and the plans you're about to get into for the next X amount of years.  We are saying to you, “Buy me, I am sexy or you will be among the hip if you own me.”  Without really listening or vaguely to the sales, you are brought into me and the word, “contract”.  For the X amount of years, you are not quite the owner of the cellular phone, but paying for the plan for the duration of the contract and if you break the contract, ooops, X dollars of penalty plus the actual amount of purchasing me, by the time, in which I am useless and being discarded or better please recycle me.

How I marked President Obama’s Inauguration

Morning of January 20, 2009- turn on my second laptop and it is my Windows 7 beta.  I tuned on Fox Channel online, CBC online, BBC International and unfortunately these all went boom!  I do have my main laptop running with Windows Vista Home Premium running with the same online channels running.  I tuned into more channels: Global- Canada online and CNN(it was overloaded).  CBC online could not meet the online demand, as also CNN.  Fortunately, there are also BBC, Fox and Global.  I was trying to tune into more perspectives, but who could keep up after 2 hours of eye soring views of delays from Fox and Global.  If any other viewers note of any live delays when you view your inauguration, post a note and thanks.  The best clips came from BBC (they also covered with PBS).  I wished I could view from CNN, sigh.

During the inauguration, even one of my cat sat around and view President Obama took the oath.

After viewing the inauguration, I waited for the parade.  The coverage was suppose to be at 2pm ish EST.  I wondered for a long long while.  Later on, I find out there was delays.  By viewing those live images for 6-7 hours on and off, the people that I could note were in the freezing cold temperatures and enthusiastic for the new President.  At the same time, I was viewing commentaries from BBC and Fox online.  (I only have a pair of ears and I wished I could have more perspective, but I went and read a board from CBC.)  Most of them are rooting for President Obama.

About 3pm ish, the parade started.  I am certainly glad that I did not head to Washington DC and freeze myself in the subzero temperatures with my bad sore bodies.  I love the excitement that I saw on the live TV streams, but I was very glad I could do it in the comfort of my home.  When President Obama and the motorcade began the route, even from the TV, you could feel the excitement that those people from DC feel.  Some did say, "for one day, you are not a Republican or a Democrat."  Those people in DC or for a matter of fact, USA were all united for their President.  I could feel the cheers that were for the President.  Obama, the president and his wife got off the motorcade and greeted their audiences.  You know that moment on, a new age has begin and we all should allow him a benefit of a doubt.  Congratulations Mr. President Obama.

A right Diagnosis?

Human_skeleton_diagram For the last week or so, the media have discussed about the health of Steve Jobs and put forth about how Jett Travolta passed. Can I put forth that all of us are human beings that would want the best for our own health and well being. When you go to your doctor, you would like them to know what is wrong with you. Then, they would give you an instant answer, right? There is a hard way to find out that there are no one right answer when it comes to your health. You would like your doctor to explore all the possibilities that they can imagine or figure out. Would you want the doctor to tell you the wrong prognosis? As I am going through my search of the correct diagnosis for my problem(s), I note how it can be so difficult even with the medical advances that we have today, doctors need to account for the individual’s unique bodies, genes, and blood types to make the best or accurate diagnosis to our ailments.

Looking Back and Laughing

What will you look back on from 2008 and laugh the hardest about?

"Chinglish"- Speaking both English and Chinese in one's sentences.
During the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Chinglish has become my favorite word.  I was not aware until a few years ago when Engrish.com came along with mis-translated English, in which I had been used to for so many years when I went back home to Hong Kong or parts of Asia to visit my family.  The westerners would mis-understand their meanings.  I never took a moment until the Olympics came along to take note how mis-translated some of the signs or some of the products were.  Some of them, they are really funny, without meaning to be.
